Our Story

How many lessons does it take for a privileged child to exercise generosity toward those in need? What if an under-resourced college dropout could transform his/her life through a thriving career in IT? And how many talented students with special needs could shine if only society believed in their potential?

In a world where young people often struggle with digital distractions and mental health challenges, our youCodia Project is here to make a difference. We empower youth through STEM education, transforming them from passive consumers into active creators. Our mission ignites confidence and builds resilience, bridging the gap between students and their communities, including those with special needs. By engaging parents, teachers, and mentors, we foster an inclusive culture of collaboration and support, nurturing a brighter future for all.

Story of youCodia

Once upon a summer in 2019, a remarkable tale of boundary crossing unfolded at YGN. A diverse ensemble of students from MIT, Stanford, and Hong Kong, despite their varied abilities and divergent educational backgrounds, learned together in unusual harmony. They embarked on a noble quest—to bridge the digital divide and create an inclusive coding platform that would ignite the spirits of under-resourced youth. Their vision transcended the present, painting a picture of a utopian realm filled with hope and possibility through the art of coding. They named this platform youCodia. Today, we have evolved into the youCodia community.

Internship

Every summer, interns from top universities in the US such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford University join our team and work with us on our various technology and service projects. Our past interns have contributed greatly to the development of youCodia software, curriculum, and content for summer camps.

Global Program

youCodia Project has global partnership in Ghana. Using the Train-the-Trainers model, our team members conducted Teacher Facilitation Workshop with local teachers in Tamale, Ghana, to adopt and implement basic visual programming and a Mobile App Development curriculum.

Why We Start

In the accelerating tech economy, under-resourced students are left behind. The digital divide is more than the uneven distribution in the access to and use of digital devices and the internet.  It is about the gap between the consumers and creators in this economy.

Who We Are

We are changemakers who want to level the playing field for everyone in the tech economy.  Effective learning of technology requires people and community; and to change the status quo, we advocate both the haves and have-nots to create solutions together.

What We Do

We aim to bridge the digital divide and social divide through a series of computer coding and mentoring programs — an unconventional but practical approach to bringing computational thinking and community integration to under-resourced youth.
